Scottish - Gi Dem Trouble

Kakal - Woman in Charge

Fellas, Kakal wants you to know he is the one benefitting from your inability to handle your business and woman. On “Woman in Charge” which is written by Calixte Xavier and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Ro-Ro Riddim, Kakal sings “When guys turn cocaine jumbie/More woman for me/ Locked up in penitentiary/ More woman for me.” He also delivers a one two punch, praising women for handling their own and making Carnival that much sweeter. Years ago Kakal sang, “For Carnival, you need people like Kakal” – here he lets you know, women are just as important to the equation, “Carnival I charge/Cuz woman in charge/ watch their boomsie charge/Cuz woman in charge.” The Ro-Ro Riddim has a slow groove just right for a lucky man to take a slow grind on the woman he has won because, “Man have no job, no money/ More woman for me/ Don’t know how to treat a lady/More woman for me/You drink away your salary/ More woman for me.”

Mongstar & Ambi - Bury Dem (Remix)

Remix off the Rebirth Riddim

Warrior Riddim [Dutch Productions]

AMBI - WARRIOR
“I am the prince of soca/tell them me no fear no boy” sings Ambi on “Warrior”, the title track off the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Warrior Riddim. The song is written by Ambroise Joseph; written and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis. This is a bacchanal check with the artiste who with his second place finish in the 2012 Power Soca Monarch let all know he can more than handle himself on a power soca stage. Like a true “Warrior”, Ambi warns you “caan stop my shine” and that he and his army are “out for carnival/ we bad for bacchanal”. The mission is to mash up the place and Ambi takes no prisoners reminding all of his past exploits and the prowess that will make him do more. Are you a “Warrior”…then battle on in the name of soca and Saint Lucia Carnival.
MONGSTAR - COOLER
On the eve of the Just 4 Fun Cooler Lime, Mongstar, the artiste who brought us a new Saint Lucia anthem with “Saint Lucia We Love” has done the same with “Cooler”. Written by Marley James and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis, “Cooler” is off the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Warrior Riddim. Turning the concept of rags flying for soca music on its head, Mongstar is challenging all to raise your cooler instead – reminding that anything can be made into a cooler from washing machine to basket and casket. This is also about the lime as well so he sings, “We dipping in any cooler/take anyting”. But because Saint Lucia Carnival eventually moves to the road, “Cooler” caters as well with “when you see we on the road/all we want is a cooler/ all we want is a cooler/and we pressure overload.” Cooler check time Saint Lucia, so bacchanalists and soca freaks raise your cooler and let’s all get it good for the vaval.

SERGIE - CHOCK
There are still women in soca music. And we are not just talking groovy but power as well. Sergie more than aptly demonstrates that on “Chock” off the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Warrior Riddim. More than holding her own with the male artistes on the Riddim, the 2011 Piton Soca Starz champion asks “Who runs the world” in much the same vein the Queen B did on her pop release years ago. Written by Marley James, Daesean Germaine and Courtney “Curty” Louis, “Chock” is also produced by Louis. “I is woman/ I not afraid of no man/right now is competition/ they call me underdog/I go defend my slogan together with every woman” is the bravado of a female who knows her place in this soca game. Calling on her female army she says “now twist and make it turn” and warns the males is chock that’s in their future – delivered straight from her!

Mubarak - On De Road

St. Lucia Soca Artiste Mubarak is definitely putting in his contribution to ensure that indeed this St. Lucia Carnival 2013 is the best time yet! With the right crowd and the right music to see you through!

St. Lucia Carnival "the greatest party in the world" that's his assertion and when you wind back on this road for carnival 2013 you know your enjoyment is optimum!

This seductive groovy soca captures not only the flair and wonderful abandonment of St. Lucia Carnival, when women feel their sexiest, and machismo reigns supreme, but this song - "ON DE ROAD" embraces the freedom of dancing unabashedly on the road, while also capturing the beauty and the true feel of carnival anywhere in the world!

A must have for any serious carnival music collector and for those who especially love groovy soca, take in Mubarak's On De Road, as you imagine yourself grooving down the road - woman in front, man behind - or just you, free spirited, taking a groovy wind on de road this St. Lucia Carnival 2013.

Superman HD - WAR

WAR - SUPERMAN HD

The music for “War” by Superman HD was produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis of Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic and Thygeson “Penn” Joseph of Studio 758, a first time collaboration between the two. The song is written by Courtney Louis, Kwency Griffith and Hollice Mapp; the same team who brought you “Defense” (2010), “More Mash Up” (2011) and “Born to Mash Up” which in 2012 secured Superman HD his first Power Soca Monarch title. Stirring bacchanalists into a frenzy is an art Superman HD has perfected over time. Now with a battle cry and a call to his trained soldiers, he is ready to wage “War,” calling out “All bacchanal soldiers follow me/We eh backing down for nobody/Put your rags and towels in the air/We taking them head on/We have no fear.” Superman HD is the General who leads this army, reminding them “we earn our stripes” and “We not running, we not running, we not running away from the war.” Like a true war General he also presents a battle cry and instructions “Now jump/scatter scatter/now bounce/scatter, scatter/now run/scatter, scatter/attack!” They say the Carnival is dead. They say it have no vibe. In that case “War” is just what the soca freaks and bacchanalists ordered – combining the artistic mastery of producers Curty and Penn with the talent of Superman HD and Mr Killa. If the mission is Save Saint Lucia Carnival, we all in and ready for the “War”.

Emergency Riddim - Precision Productions

With every inhaled breath, palpable tension swarms through the barely restrained bodies of restless masqueraders.

One can feel the energy of multiple island summer festivals throbbing in the air, and the stirring of riotous feet awaiting that particular fuel needed to propel them across the black carpets of the Caribbean.

Precision Productions has listened attentively and using all of these emotions has conjured one rhythmic inoculation that is sure to relieve the entire region.

This cure comes in the declared release of the "Emergency Riddim".

As the musical alarms sound off, a masterful team of artists is called in and placed on siren duty, each with a specific mission in mind.

In charge of sharing tactical information is St. Lucia's current Groovy King, Teddyson "TJ" John, who alongside his crafty writing partner, Telvin John, hooks all with "Backa", which is Lucian slang for "Your Crew" and is one part must-have fete list, one part declaration of no-safe-gyration zone, and one part urgent road instruction.

Meanwhile Fya Empress, the first ever triple Monarch title holder in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, shows off her skill as she whips feters into a fevered state, with "We Ready", which was written by the dynamic duo of Akeem "Preedy" Chance and Stephanas "Steffy" Ramgattie of WiiMAD fame.

Majesty continues to reign as the Caribbean Queen of Bacchanal, Destra, joins the rumble intent on leaving nothing behind but dust in the frenetic "Mash Up" that was authored by Patrick "Mista Vybe" Gordon.

Bacchanal rules in the middle of all this action as St Lucia's 2010 Power Soca Monarch and Road March King, DJ HP, delivers an energetic illustration of the scenario painted by Mista Vybe who does double writing duty in this riddim, showing off his witty side, this time, in the mauvaise langue tummy-tickler "Maddd Again".

Now with this sure remedy flowing through the atmosphere, one question... are you ready to be charged with aiding and abetting this Precision Soca Emergency?

All Songs Co-Written by Kasey Phillips

Toya - Give It To Me

There are some things in life that are best enjoyed only when shared with the ideal partner.

La Toya "Toya" Lewis seductively sings about the discovery of this phenomenon in her newest release with Precision Productions.

In the appropriately named, "Give It To Me", she sings about a dance partner, whose in-sync moves fulfill her every need and drive her to entreat for even more.

Precision lays a hypnotic musical foundation on this track, while steamy lyrics from Stephanas Ramgattie and Akeem Chance form a stairway that leads listeners into a realm of loosed inhibitions.

Once again the team has managed to reveal the unleashed delight to be found this time of year, when Soca music takes over influencing us to surrender not just to each other but also its sweet embrace.

Written by Stephanas "Steffy" Ramgattie, Akeem "Preedy" Chance of WiiMAD, Nikholai Greene & Kasey Phillips
Guitar by Kenny Phillips
Steelpan by Brandon Paul

Rebirth Riddim [Dutch Productions]

Cross Over – Q-Pid and Scady
The song is called “Cross Over”. It is featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Rebirth Riddim. Written by Courtney Louis and Melissa Moses, it is produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis. Q-Pid and Scady Dot P sing “Cross Over”. Now brace yourself, because here ends the calm normal as we are about to take you to another dimension populated by the sights and sounds of Carnival. Ladies and gentlemen, soca lovers and bacchanalists all
“Put your hands to the side/Get ready to Cross Over/take a hummmm.” There are a few things and actions you will need for this trip, “Where your rag/Jump Up, Jump Up/Where your flag/Jump Up, Jump Up/Where your towel.” You will also have to demonstrate the ability to lose all control, surrendering yourself to the mastery of this music, “Throw down the railing/Cross Over/Move the Stage/Bump Somebody, we in a rage/Cross Over/ Now run till you dead.” Be warned that “Cross Over” will also make you talk in soca tongues because, “We pressure up already/So we don’t give a d-d-d-d-damn.”

Bury Dem – Ambi
Powered by the “wealth of our soul” Ambi has been sent to fight with “Bury Dem”. Ambroise Joseph and Courtney “Curty” Louis wrote the song on the Rebirth Riddim, which Louis also produced for his Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic studio. The intent behind “Bury Dem” is stated clearly and emphatically by Ambi who came in second in the 2012 Power Soca Monarch competition, “We coming to bury dem/ Tell them we go bury dem/We going to bury dem/One by one we go bury dem.” A man on a mission, he makes it clear victory is the only option, “Nothing cannot stop me/Somebody ah go get dead tonight/Call the undertaker/ Don’t make no sense you put up a fight.” And because this is musical warfare, “We run the party/ that’s why they fraid of we” he also takes it there, calling out competitors, detractors and naysayers, “Dem boys must be mad/them call out me name/I coming to bowl dem down, bowl them down.” Ambi has consistently improved in the execution of his soca craft and with “Bury Dem” he makes it clear failure is not an option, “Tell them we nah back down/The fete lock down/ Anything ah anything/So tell them boy come/We nah afraid of nothing/Terrible from time we born/One by one, two by two them ah go drop down.”

Plenty Mash Up – Ricky T
“One ting about Saint Lucia/Is the land of party hard” sings 12 time Soca Monarch Ricky T. The artiste who holds the record for the most Road March and Power Soca titles lives up to his billing on “Plenty Mash Up” delivering hooks and lines designed to move from fete, yard and the all important road. Featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Rebirth Riddim, “Plenty Mash Up” is written by Ricky Joseph and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis. Like a true Carnival ambassador, Ricky T pays ode here to the start of the road he has dominated five times in the recent past, “Say we coming down by Mega J and is mash up, mash up/More mash up/Plenty mash up.” He also calls his reveler soldiers “We in the Carnival band/ we making a commess/Nobody cah hold us down cuz they know we bless.” The heat is in the Carnival Spirit as is “Plenty Mash Up.” In a season plagued with new financial concerns, when Saint Lucians keep asking for a musical champion, their former King has returned to answer the call. “So show me your rag and flag we doing a madness” as we get ready to “Plenty Mash Up”.

Increase My Salary – Kakal
King Kakal is a two time Power Soca Monarch. To reach the top of that soca mountain, not once, but twice, requires the love of the people who serve at the feet of soca. It is these very people Kakal has come to plead for on “Increase My Salary.” Featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Rebirth Riddim, “Increase My Salary” is written by Calixte Xavier and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis. Combining the social realities of high unemployment and rising prices with the bacchanal we all love, Kakal laments he can no longer afford to pay to live. “I caan even buy a phone card/no food to put in me yard/Every month is the same ting” and because “I want to buy a costume/Increase my salary.” This is serious business, this soca mixed with economics, especially when a pilot can literally see prices rising as he flies through the sky since “Everyting gone up up/But the salary never raise.” So put up your hand and flag, rising as high as the prices as we all join in the soca plea to “Increase My Salary”.

Born To Do This - D'Sean
Every once in a while, a talent comes along that leaves you speechless with wonder and this is he. Appearing on the appropriately titled Rebirth Riddim, D’Sean is laying claim to his soca destiny on “Born to Do This” which he wrote and Courtney “Curty” Louis produced for his Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic label. These are bold statements from a young man who is still relatively unknown in musical circles. However, with two Power Soca Monarch finals under his belt, D’Sean declares himself “the soca baby coming for the Soca King.” Formerly Di Militant Soldya, D’Sean went through his own Rebirth during Carnival 2012 and it, like his musical journey says to you, “Tell them I was born to do this/Born to sing soca/I coming with a ball of fire/To shake up the whole arena.” Rampant with imagery including reference to a “Bacchanal Relay”; D’Sean warns we “Blowing them away like we is a storm/ we hitting them up like we are the sun…/And if they try to stop me/ We stomping in a de yard.” So take notice now and remember where you were when you heard this song and this artiste, D’Sean is indeed “Born To Do This”.
