Mongstar - KiKi
Now Kiki why would you do that? Go through your man’s phone after a very, very early morning phone call? And since no good deed goes unpunished, the search resulted in you leaving and him begging you to come back home in both English and patois. “Kiki” is written by Marley James and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Come to Me Riddim. The single also features instruments that sing under the expert touch of legendary Saint Lucian artistes Barbara Cadet and Ras Bonte. “Kiki” is a lovesong for the one that got away – or rather the one that left after she felt taken for granted, cheated on. The love is still there though and the remorse genuine, “Girl come back in my life and this time will be secure.” There is also admission of guilt and a promise to do better, “Every day I take you for granted/Girl I caan do that no more.” Because the path to love never does run smooth, sometimes a bump in the road ends with appeals to “Come back home” and start all over again as happens here on “Kiki”.
Toya feat. Scady Dot P- Party Freak
Sometimes a word gets a bad rap. Take freak for example. Intended to describe one, who is dedicated, committed – it has also come to represent negative sexual stereotypes. “Party Freak” which was written by Courtney “Curty” Louis and Kwency Griffith will do its part to turn all that around. Multiple Groovy Soca Monarch finalist Toya is joined on this Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic produced song on the Come To Me Riddim by fellow Groovy Soca Monarch finalist Scady Dot P. In this instance, the party freak is one who is dedicated to the fete experience, “Cuz when it comes to party you know we doesn’t stick/ De bacchanal inside we will take over the streets/ No they could never stop we, cuz we will never quit/From Sunday to Sunday, seven days of the week.” The song leaves no doubt about the level of dedication it takes to deserve such a title, “Feting is my occupation/bacchanal is my name/leave me alone when I feting/I am not ashame.” It is fitting for “Party Freak” to appear on a Riddim that beckons all to come, after all, while we want to change perceptions, one doesn’t really want to leave anyone out of the fete experience that will be Saint Lucia Carnival 2013 and its “nothing sweeter than dat” tagline.
Platinum George - Whine Like Dat (Toong Tang)
Soca Lovers rejoice for the return of Platinum George! Appearing for the first time on a song produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis, “Whine Like dat (Toong Tang)” is featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Come to Me Riddim. The song is written by Courtney Louis, Marley James and George St Croix and will envelope you in a melodious mood designed by Platinum, there is no doubt, this man can sing and he proves it here. Accompanied by beats that speak to our French soul and passion, “Whine Like Dat” is also a mating dance between a man and a woman, a sort of you show me yours and I will tell you about mine. Bragging, “I’ve got a whine girl/no man can whine like dat/I’ve got a groove girl/ no man caan whine like dat” George is entreating the female he has his eyes on to take a chance and dance. The appeal goes out whether you are single or attached. It is a primal call you will experience through to your soul on this aptly titled Come to Me Riddim.
Sergie - Woman of the House
Sergie is BOSS. Female BOSS at that; the “Woman of the House”. Sergia Charles, the 2011 Piton Soca Starz winner, 2012 Power Soca Finalist has officially began her 2013 Saint Lucia Carnival season. Asserting herself as the one in charge of her fate, she is laying down the law for the man in her life. That includes letting him know she pays both their bills and can handle her own, “cuz is me and me alone/Woman of the House/So you better watch your tone/ When you in my house”. This one is an anthem for all females who know how to handle theirs and their man business, “come give me the ting before I put you out.” Written and produced by Courtney “Curty” Louis, “Woman of the House” is featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Come to me Riddim. The music alone is sure to resonate, playing as it does to our French heritage, it is also expertly handled by Sergie who reminds her man, “I run tings/not you run tings/call me Woman of the House.”
Jay Budz - Your Boomsie
“Tonight I’m gonna end up in a problem!” Consider that fair warning from Jay Budz, 2012 Piton Soca Starz winner on “Your Boomsie”. Featured on the Dutch Productions/Stratosphere Muzic Come to Me Riddim, the song is written by Jonathan Mathurin and Courtney “Curty” Louis who also produced it. You ever walk into a fete, club or outside concert and seen that one person who was getting it so good, you had to get some of that? Well this song is about that and for you. “Never knew a girl cuda bad so/Whine pon me in a slow mo/ Cuz now that I got you swing it to the left and back to the right.” It doesn’t matter if she or him is attached, this is a meeting destined by fate, one that will mean the ultimate good time for both. Lucky for us, we are taken along for the ride as the music plays and the Come to Me Riddim leads our hips, waist and flex just where they need to go.
